BBQ Time

Bbq_4

People sometimes ask.

"Why do you do t-shirts if you're a golf clothing company? I can't wear them on the course."

We usually say actually you can wear them on some courses.

Rye Hill for example.

And down the range.

But really they're just for hanging out in, like when you're having the first BBQ of the year.

About time.

More t-shirt weather please!

A Royal Gem

dressed to a tee is always razor sharp when it comes to getting good deals and hunting out a bargain.

I think we can credit this to our early student tours to the Emerald Isle where we honed our skills, getting onto the likes of Waterville for free and Lahinch for a fiver. We even managed £25 notes at the Old Head which will now set you back a cool 295 euros for 18 holes of golf.

Our latest find is Hampton Court Palace. The course is set in the royal grounds and is just outside London in Kingston Upon Thames. Even if you're not from the big smoke it is well worth the trip.

Normally costing £40 for a midweek round you can use two for one vouchers or if you ask nicely you can pay £20 without the vouchers - but you never heard it from us...

The best time to play the palace is from May through to late Autumn, when the fairways are framed by long flowing acid grass. This gives you a real sense that you are on the links and the long irons will be out in abundance.

Royal Birkdale

Birkdale_thurs

Had a great time at the Open on Thursday.

In the morning I saw Monty, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood all looking a bit wet!

Then had some welcome lunch out of the rain (thank you!)

Afterwards we followed Tom Lehman (Come on Tom!), Johan Edfors and Azuma Yano all the way round.

A great way to see the course, which was really baring its teeth with all the wind and the rain.

Proper links golf!

Iain's Driving at Open Qualifying

Here are some of Ian's drives from Open qualifying. He might not have got through this year but he's got a great swing - lovely tempo with his driver!

At the first, where he got a birdie 4.

And at the 13th - just started raining!

Open Qualifying at Coventry GC

Ip_sv

Iain Powell, golf pro and friend of dressed to a tee took part in regional qualifying for the Open at Coventry Golf Club last week.

His secret weapon in his quest for golf's most prestigious prize was having Sam 'Bagger Vance' Varney as his caddy!

Iain started well with a birdie on the 1st, he followed that with a solid par at the 2nd, but a mishap with the 3 iron and the River Sowe on the short 3rd put him back in the field.

He bounced back well though with a birdie at the 4th (a great read on the green from his caddy!), and then played really solidly for the rest of the front nine.

1st_3

He hit his driver really well all round, but he dropped a couple of shots towards the end of the round when he really needed to make up a couple, so despite swinging well, he didn't qualify.

It was a great experience for me and once i got the hang of Iain's electric trolley I really enjoyed the day! I even had the towel hanging on the inside of the umbrella when the rain came.

Next time I'll just pack a little more food, professional golf makes you hungry!

Thanks for asking me to do it Iain.

Simple is Best

Uiggreen

Just back from a very chilled holiday in the Outer Hebrides and yes, the silver sticks were out and about.

As you can see from the stunning photo of Uig on Lewis, we are talking golf at its most simple - white ball, a few stones to mark the tee, hole in the ground, honesty box and some sheep for keeping the fairways mown and the greens fertilised...

Uigtee

It was beautiful, soulful and a refreshing change to the somewhat commercialised golf that is all too common these days. And with no dress code i was right at home!
